HISTORY |
|
 |
|
Dr. William Romero started his weight
management practice almost immediately out of residency in 1988. He
trained extensively in medical weight management by joining the
American Society of Bariatric
Physicians (ASBP) in 1989 and became Board Certified by the
American Board of
Bariatric Physicians (ABBM). Not content with this, he pursued
graduate studies in Medical Nutrition and was certified by the
Certification Board for Nutrition
Specialists (CBNS).
Dr. Romero' s experience and training allows
him to tailor different styles of nutritional intervention for those
who need to lose weight.
On this page, you will learn how you can diet
on your own or if you decide to see Dr.Romero, what appetite

MEDICATIONS |
| Every patient undergoes a nutritional
evaluation, education and then given a dietary guideline. However,
for those who feel that an FDA-approved medication could add to
their success and whose health warrants them, appetite suppressants
are utilized under supervision. Many
of us are extra sensitive to all the visual, auditory and
olfactory cues that bombard us each day. This may be temporary as in
times of stress or more permanent in cases of familial or genetic
obesity. There are prescription strength appetite suppressants that
have been proven safe and effective.
After getting a medical evaluation from the doctor, this program may
be recommended to adult patients or teens older than 12 years old.

LIQUID PROTEIN |

Many patients request for a more
regimented program. For them and those who are severely overweight,
rapid weight loss with physician supervision may be appropriate.
This may be modified to include one meal a day for those who are not
severely obese. This is the diet program for those who respond well
to structured regimens.

REGULAR FOOD WITH CALORIC RESTRICTIONS |
| For children and
teens, the best way to lose weight is by eating regular food with
nutritional guidance. Adults may want to lose weight this way, too.
A regular food program is designed based on
the patient's Basal Metabolic Rate and lifestyle. |

EXERCISE |
 |
|
A component of all
programs, exercise may be a stand-alone way to lose weight. All
other weight loss programs are combined with exercise to enhance
weight reduction and to increase metabolic rate. The patient is
advised on what exercises burn fat the most, and what would build
muscles. Exercises may be combined to produce optimal results. |
