WHAT IS LASER RESURFACING? |
| |
|
Laser
wavelengths are designed to target a specific part of the skin. The
Sciton MicrlLaserPeel uses Erbium:YAG to produce a wavelength that
targets water. The first water-containing body part it encounters is
the epidermis (outermost layer of the skin). The laser energy will
heat up the skin cells and destroy them.
The epidermis is approximately 110-120 microns
thick, The Sciton MicroLaserPeel can be programmed to target various
thickness. The most common is 20 and 40 microns, leaving a more
youthful, even and blemish-free complexion.

HAIR REMOVAL |
| |
|
Because
laser energy targets the melanin in the hair root to eliminate hair
follicles, darker-skinned individuals could not enjoy the benefits
of laser technology. The Sciton HMV can be programmed to treat all
skin types. The other special feature is its LAPG (Large Area
Pattern Generator) which allows the operator to target bigger areas
without overalapping of laser shots. This results in faster and more
even hair removal. |

ACNE TREATMENT |
| |
|
Laser is
very effective for acne treatment. It targets sebaceous glands and
dries them up. This leads to long-lasting treatment because of the
reduced number of problem glands and eliminates side-effects from
Accutane or antibiotics. |

PIGMENT REMOVAL |
| |
|
Skin
discolorations are effectively treated by Sciton's
BBL system. BBL stands for Broad Band Light. This is visible light
that is so intense that it disintegrates pigments on the skin.
Different filters may be chosen to target pigment, veins or hair.
This
technology is very effective in treating rosacea, melasma, age and
sunspots, birth marks, scars and others. It can even reduce the
intensity of stretch marks.

SPIDER VEINS |
| |
|
The Sciton
HMV can target hemoglobin and therefore destroy spider veins and
possibly smaller varicose veins. Some spider veins are too small to
be effectively treated with sclerotherapy which makes laser therapy
a better choice. |

WHAT ARE THE SIDE-EFFECTS? |
| |
|
Side
effects of laser procedures are generally related to over-delivery
of energy causing burns. It is important that caution be exercised
especially at the first treatment. Please be patient if we start
with a lower energy than. |

IS LASER MEDICINE COVERED BY MEDICAL INSURANCE? |
| |
|
Most laser
procedures are cosmetic in nature and are therefore not covered.
Should you have any doubts, please call your insurance company and
inquire about your particular skin condition. |
| |
|
|
| |
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED? |
| |
|
Most laser
procedures need more than just one treatment. For example, hair
removal may need 4 to 6 treatments for the the first year and then
one treatment per year for maintenance. Pigments, spider veins, acne
and others need repeat sessions until they are satisfactorily
treated. |
